SOSKE Savonlinna Region Centre of Expertise
Savonlinna Region Centre of Expertise is a member of the Tourism and Experience Management Competence Cluster the national centres of expertise programme 2007-2013. The operator of the Centre of Expertise 1.1.2007-30.6.2010 was Savonlinna Innovation Centre Ltd. Starting from 1 July 2010 the administrator is Savonlinna Region Federation of Municipalities. Partners of SOSKE include Lapland (Rovaniemi), Finnish metropolitan region, Turku and Jyväskylä (associate member). The activities of the Savonlinna Region Centre of Expertise span whole Eastern Finland serving tourism companies in the provices of Etelä-Karjala, Etelä-Savo, Kainuu, Pohjois-Karjala and Pohjois-Savo. The role of the Savonlinna Region Centre of Expertise is the strategic coordination of knowledge intensive programmes, projects and business initiatives to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer, tourism business networking and interaction between the industry and research. Operations are based on the expertise available in the Savonlinna Innovation Center innovation environment that encompasses activities of the University of Eastern Finland, Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences and Haaga-Perho. Partners in programme cooperation include four other unversities of applied sciences in Eastern Finland giving it extensive reach and a good potential for reaching out to the tourism entrepreneurs in different tourism destinations. The centre of expertise aims to facilitate strong growth of tourism and tourism investments in the most important resorts and destinations in Eastern Finland. An important focus area of potential growth are emerging thematic networks in lake tourism. In the service industries, the scope of innovation activities is to help companies develop their products in a customer oriented way and improve customer interface in service chains for added value for the customer. Thematically, the most important challenge is the efficient delivery of Finnish lake tourism products to customers in Central and Southern Europe and Russia. In the context of the cluster for tourism and experience economy, Savonlinna is responsible for competences in e-business models for tourism and technology transfer. Savonlinna also has strong competencies in small and medium sized tourism enterprise networking and research in recreation and leisure.
